Privacy Policy
Last updated: March 26, 2026
Plant Triage ("we," "our," or "us") operates the Plant Triage mobile application (the "App"). This Privacy Policy explains what data we collect, how we use it, who we share it with, and your rights regarding your information.
1. Data We Collect
When you use Plant Triage, we collect the following categories of data:
- Account information — Email address, display name, and profile avatar when you create an account via email, Google Sign-In, or Apple Sign-In.
- Plant images — Photos you upload through the App for plant identification and health diagnosis. Images are stored on our servers to provide the service (see Section 2).
- Plant and scan data — Species identifications, health diagnoses, care tasks, watering schedules, and treatment history associated with your plants.
- Device information — Device type, operating system version, and app version for diagnostics and compatibility.
- Location data (optional) — Approximate (coarse) location, used solely to provide weather-based care recommendations. Location access is optional and can be denied without affecting core functionality.
- Push notification tokens — Device tokens for delivering care reminders and watering notifications you have opted into.
- Subscription data — Subscription tier, status, and expiration date synced from Apple App Store or Google Play via RevenueCat. We do not collect or store payment card details.
- Pet ownership preferences — Whether you own cats or dogs, used to flag toxic plants in your collection.
2. AI and Image Processing
Plant Triage uses artificial intelligence to analyze plant photos you submit. When you scan a plant:
- Your image is uploaded to our cloud storage (Cloudflare R2) and sent to third-party AI vision models for analysis.
- We use Google Gemini and Alibaba Qwen-VL as our AI providers. Your images are transmitted to these services for processing.
- Images are not used to train AI models. They are processed solely to return your diagnosis results.
- Uploaded images are retained in cloud storage for as long as you maintain an active account, so you can view your scan history. You may request deletion at any time (see Section 7).
3. How We Use Your Data
- To provide AI-powered plant identification, health diagnosis, and treatment recommendations.
- To deliver personalized care schedules and watering reminders based on your plants and local weather.
- To manage your account, subscription, and purchase history.
- To send push notifications for care reminders you have opted into.
- To check plant toxicity against pet safety databases when you indicate pet ownership.
- To improve and maintain the App's functionality and performance.
4. Third-Party Services
We use the following third-party services to operate the App. Each service receives only the data necessary to perform its function:
- Google Gemini API — AI-powered plant image analysis (receives plant images).
- Alibaba DashScope (Qwen-VL) — Secondary AI vision model for plant analysis (receives plant images).
- RevenueCat — Subscription and in-app purchase management (receives user ID, purchase data).
- Convex — Backend database and API infrastructure (stores account, plant, and scan data).
- Cloudflare R2 — Cloud image storage for uploaded plant photos.
- OpenWeatherMap — Weather data for location-based care recommendations (receives approximate location).
- Trefle / Zyla — Plant species databases for care information enrichment.
- Perplexity AI — Supplemental plant care research and data enrichment.
- Expo Push Notifications — Delivery of care reminders via Apple Push Notification Service (APNs) and Firebase Cloud Messaging (FCM).
- Google Sign-In / Apple Sign-In — Authentication providers (receive standard OAuth data).
We do not sell your personal data to any third party.
5. Payments and Subscriptions
Subscriptions and in-app purchases are processed entirely through the Apple App Store or Google Play Store. We do not directly collect, process, or store your payment card information. Subscription status is synced to our systems via RevenueCat to manage access to premium features.
6. Data Storage and Security
Your data is stored using Convex (database) and Cloudflare R2 (images), both of which employ industry-standard encryption in transit and at rest. Authentication tokens are stored in encrypted on-device secure storage. We retain your data for as long as your account is active or as needed to provide our services.
7. Your Rights and Data Deletion
You have the right to:
- Access your personal data stored in the App.
- Delete your account and all associated data, including uploaded images, scan history, plant data, and care tasks.
- Opt out of push notifications at any time via the App's settings or your device settings.
- Revoke location access at any time via your device settings.
To request account deletion or a copy of your data, contact us at support@planttriage.app. We will process deletion requests within 30 days.
8. Children's Privacy
Plant Triage is not intended for use by children under the age of 13 (or the applicable age of digital consent in your jurisdiction). We do not knowingly collect personal data from children. If you believe a child has provided us with personal data, contact us immediately and we will delete it.
9. Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. Changes will be posted on this page with an updated "Last updated" date. Continued use of the App after changes constitutes acceptance of the revised policy. We will notify you of material changes via the App or email.
